welcome back! fall is officially upon us and we are back with a FRESH helping of wild and wonderful things that i’ve been enjoying lately.
FRESH: gaming
Pokemon HeartGold for Nintendo DS
when i was younger i had one classmate who had a pink Nintendo DS, and one of my core memories is playing Cooking Mama on her DS every morning before class started. i never had a console to play on and always felt like i missed out on a collective core childhood memory by never having actually played the original Pokemon games on console.
fast forward to this month when i saw a white second hand NDS LL, then a copy of HeartGold on sale for a really good price in Ahikabara, it just felt like a sign from the universe to live out my childhood dreams. my inner child has been squealing with delight ever since i bought it, and my adult self is appalled by what they’ve been doing with Slowpoke tails in Azalea Town. a big bonus i didn’t expect - my NDS LL fits perfectly into my tiny handbag, maybe it truly was meant to be.

Wooper, Let’s Tidy Up! with Ditto: i’ve been on a big Pokemon kick lately and discovered these wonderful clay stop-motion kids animation shorts about Ditto’s adventures with other fellow Pokemon. such a delight to watch cutesy no-dialogue cartoons again.
NatGeo: Ditto and the Liquid Reality of DNA: as much as i am anti-AI generated visuals, i’m making an exception for this NatGeo parody about different types of Pokemon in the real world wild - the whole Ditto section made me even more emotionally invested in my favorite pokemon.
Sebastian Stan Breaks Down His Most Iconic Characters: i was shook when i saw this 40 minute (!!) GQ interview pop up on my feed, it feels like a blast from the past circa 2016. regardless, this is such an insightful, in-depth retrospective of nearly all the characters Sebastian has played in his many different roles over the years. (i still can’t get over his new shaved head look.)
vlog: day in the life - Kylie Jenner: i can’t deny that i love a little reality TV, and watching Kylie’s vlogging again like its 2016 is such a satisfying guilty pleasure. seeing her wear “less makeup” and looking like her teenage self again feels very full circle and honestly healing to see big-name celebrities normalizing appearing on camera with no/less makeup on.
FRESH: fun
Wavepaint: this little online program lets you draw anything on a blank canvas, then turns your doodle into sounds by mapping it onto a visual note scale - absolutely genius and so much joy to discover what your digital fish doodle could sound like.

Songs to Play to Pull Millenial Ravers Out of Retirement: this whole mini shorts series started when i dove back into an old favorites playlist and rediscovered all my favorite big room EDM songs from the 2010s and couldn’t stop dancing in my room to them. i’ve never filmed myself dancing unfiltered-style in this way so there was some self-consciousness about tens of thousands of eyes on me, but it has been worth it to connect with so many of you about our nostalgic love for the golden era of electronic music. here is part 2, and stay tuned for the next one!
